I salute you my Abba Father on this Father’s Day, for loving this daughter and caring about every little detail of my life. For you delight in seeing your children smile – it is Your Pleasure.

I love a clean and mowed green yard. But mine is not always a picture of that.

I have been working on keeping up my yard lately and enjoying it. I rented a pressure washer for two weekends and got my children to help me wash the drive way, back porch and the concrete area in the back. I paid someone about a week before that to mow and run the weed eater. In order to keep up this progress, I decided to do some work on the Saturday before Father’s Day. I planned to get up early, mow the entire yard, and trim some over grown bushes in front. One of the front windows was completely covered by these plants. I wanted to trim them, so my daughter and her husband could see out of this window from the room they would be staying in when they visited from Iceland in less than two weeks. I was on a mission.

When I woke up that morning, I checked my weather app. There was a chance of rain at about 1:00pm that day, so I felt pretty good I would be done before it came down. I got ready to head outside at about 9:00am but to my surprise the sky suddenly turned cloudy. Still, I went out to see how much I could do before the rain. If you know me, you know I do not give up when I make up my mind to do something. So, I said a prayer, asking Daddy God to hold back the rain so that I could finish the yard work.

I continued praying and talking to Daddy as I mowed, reminding Him the yard work needed to be completed today because I had other things planned to do throughout the week. I had to get my house ready before my daughter and her family arrived in a few days. The cloud got thicker, and I felt some rain drops but I refused to give up. I continued my conversation and reasoning with my Daddy who I know takes Pleasure in seeing His children smile. His pleasure is to see my smile and my joy full.

“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” —John 16:24 NIV

If that means moving back the rain so this daughter can finish yard work, so be it.

Not only did I finish cutting the front and back yard, I also trimmed the overgrown plants and pulled some weeds. My yard was looking great and I could see through the window.

This daughter, though exhausted, had a smile on her face that Saturday and I know my Daddy was delighted and pleased to do it!! The rain finally started about thirty minutes after I finished. I laid on the couch after I cleaned up with a smile on my face, grateful to my Abba Father who cares about every area of my life.

I remembered my earthly father who went to be with the Lord in 1995. He was an amazing dad who would also do anything to see his children happy. Father’s Day may not bring a good memory to some due to experiences with an earthly father. But we have a wonderful Heavenly Father who is always waiting to make us smile. He can replace our unpleasant memories of an earthly father with pleasant remembrance of His Faithfulness – His Pleasure is for our joy to be full.
